A unique Amorphophallus titanum has bloomed at the Missouri Botanical Garden! Commonly known as Titan Arum or the corpse flower, it is a large, fast-growing plant in the Aroid family. Few of these plants exist in cultivation, and they bloom only rarely and under just the right conditions. Of the plants in cultivation, less than 130 flowerings have been documented in the world in nearly 120 years. On the extremely infrequent occasion that a Titan Arum comes into flower, the intense, foul odor, emitted from a tall spike of small, crowded flowers, lasts just a few days. Every year or two, the plant sends up one long, gigantic, rolled-up leaf that unfurls its umbrella-like blade during a period of about three weeks. The leaf lives for one or two years before the plant goes into a dormant period that lasts from a few months to a year. The inflorescence, a giant flowering structure opens quickly, often in just a couple of hours. It maintains its full form for about three to five days, with peak bloom (and the awful odor) lasting about 24 hours. The full bloom process documented here lasted approximately 10 days, with the plant entering peak bloom on the afternoon of May 19, 2012 and then starting to recede by the following morning.

From the LP Brilliant Names And Dames [1987] Libido Blume raged the live music scene of Athens during the mid-eighties. The band was formed from the ashes of Captain Nephos in Athens, Nov. 1984. Akis Boyatzis (formerly with Captain Nephos and currently with Sigmatropic), after a short periods collaboration with Yiannis Drennoyiannis (later of Yeah!) united with old pals Dimitris Stergiou and Dimitris Bourousas with a powerful modern rock n roll quartet in mind. After auditioning several guitar players, the band hired Stelios Habipis as the forth member of Libido Blume. Libido Blumes music was a mix of garage nostalgia, electro-pop, electro-funk and post-punk. The band carried on with the success that Captain Nephos had in their live shows, and soon signed with the independent label Dikaioma Diavasis, later Di-Di Music (now responsible for huge rock festivals in Greece, such as Rockwave). They released two vinyl LPs and one EP between the years 1985 and 1987. Their monumental appearance in the Thessaloniki Biennale of Young Mediterranean Artists (November 1986) was a landmark in their career, as well as their guest appearance opening for bands like The Dream Syndicate, The Three Johns and Les Thugs. Jon Langford (of The Mekons and The Three Johns) was the producer of their final LP in 1987.
